1. Overview & Local-First Architecture

Hordes of Azeroth is built on the principle of local-first computing. The entire game environment—including the client, server daemon, and MariaDB database—runs strictly on your local PC via loopback network interfaces (127.0.0.1).

We do not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or maintain an active connection to an external master server to play.

2. Launcher Telemetry (Strictly Opt-In)

Upon launching HoALauncher for the first time, you will be prompted once with a clear choice asking whether you wish to contribute anonymous combat and run statistics.

If you consent, the launcher transmits only the following non-personal data upon the completion of a run:

  • Class played
  • Spells learned, evolved, and their respective ranks
  • Equipped gear tiers and trinkets
  • Damage dealt and taken during the run
  • Highest floor reached and difficulty mode
  • Hordes of Azeroth game version and operating system type (e.g. Windows 11, Linux)

Purpose: This data is aggregated and used exclusively by developers to balance class abilities, tune boss encounters, and fix gameplay disparities.

Revocation: You can disable telemetry at any time by opening the ··· menu in the launcher and turning off "Send run data".

3. Crash Logs & Bug Reporting

When you experience an issue or crash, you can use the launcher's built-in "Report a bug" feature:

  • The launcher packages recent server and client logs into a .zip file and saves it directly onto your desktop.
  • You are in full control of this file. You may inspect its contents before choosing to attach it to a report on GitHub Issues or post it on our Discord server.
  • Server logs automatically trim when they exceed 32 MB to prevent disk bloat.

4. Local Storage & Data Retention

All character saves, unlocked talent trees, Vault items, and settings are saved locally inside your dedicated game folder.

The only files placed outside your game directory is a small temporary font cache stored in:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\HordesOfAzeroth (on Windows) or ~/.local/share/HordesOfAzeroth (on Linux).

Deleting your game directory and this folder completely removes all traces of the project from your computer.
